The Lawrence Hall of Science
The public science center of the University of California, Berkeley.
The Lawrence is getting ready to re-open. We’ll see you on October 30th!
For over 50 years, The Lawrence Hall of Science has been at the forefront of science education.
On a visit to The Lawrence, students collaborate to investigate new ideas as they become scientists and engineers for a day.
We partner with school districts to support science learning. We offer district-wide elementary, middle, and high school programs, either virtually or in-person.
We collaborate with a range of partners to innovate in science education. Together, we go further.
Welcome to our 2021 Summer Camp offerings! We remain, as always, fully committed to providing safe and fun science learning for your children. This summer’s offerings are designed to meet the unique safety and health concerns that have evolved during the COVID-19 pandemic, so the camp experiences will differ from those in past summers. We are now offering both in-person camps at The Lawrence as well as online camps. Rest assured, our team has put together a fantastic program that will offer the same high-quality and engaging experiences that you have come to expect from us. Registration is open!
Investigate and explore with us this fall in Afterschool Science Online! Experience engaging hands-on science with our expert educators online from the comfort of your own home. All materials required for exciting activities and experiments will be shipped directly to you.
Our interactive programs are available for children entering first grade through high school. Programs run Wednesday afternoons on November 3, 10, 17 & December 1, 8, 15. Advance registration is required in order to ensure that you receive materials before the program begins.
A generous gift provided through a collaboration with the Nobel Foundation is offering full tuition for the Teen Research Program (grades 9-12) to families in need. To apply, do not register for the program, instead fill out this form and you will receive new registration instructions within a few days.
Our online programs bring many of the key elements of in-person instruction to the virtual learning world: personal attention, a low staff-to-participant ratio, serious science learning, lots of hands-on fun, and interaction with other participants.
The online instructors are museum educators from The Lawrence. We maintain a low staff ratio of 1:6, which encourages their engagement with participants.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Joanna, Director, at email@example.com
Make sure your shipping address is the same as the one you entered when completing registration. Our shipping time line ensures that the materials box should arrive by Monday of the week before your program. If you have not received materials by that day before 4 p.m., please contact us, and we will work with you to remedy.
When you open the materials box, please review the enclosed packing list to make sure that all the listed contents are present. If something is missing or arrives broken, please let us know by the Monday before your program and we will work with you to remedy.
Please refer to the corresponding program description, as each program is different. Typically, you should be collecting recycled materials for construction and making sure you have a clean designated work space.
While all programs are carefully designed to be age-appropriate, some programs may require limited help from an adult to check the packing list and to help with setup. Please note that children younger than the age range of the program should never handle program materials. Parents are required to be onsite while children are participating in the program. In-person camps are available for children from Pre-K through high school, in a variety of topics ranging from dinosaurs and slime to astronomy and coding. So long as public health guidelines permit it, camps will take place at The Lawrence beginning on June 7 thru August 6. Sessions are designed with public health guidance and camper safety in mind. To keep our campers safe, they will be divided into small, stable, grade-level groupings (called pods) of campers and camp leaders who will experience three weeks of camp together from start to finish. Each pod will be located in its own assigned space in The Lawrence; they will not share outdoor time together with other pods; and they will have assigned times for outdoor experiences, as well as other Lawrence experiences, to limit their exposure to other pods. Additional measures will be in place to maximize camper health and safety, while permitting high-quality, hands-on experiences you have come to expect from The Lawrence.
Interactive online camps are available for children entering first grade through high school who want to engage with science but aren’t ready to join us in-person, or who can only participate from home due to distance or other considerations. Online camps start June 7th thru August 6. Campers will enjoy engaging, hands-on science experiences, will have many opportunities to complete projects, will share with each other and also the camp leaders, and will surely have a good time! We will send all the materials directly to you. Each online camp session lasts one or two weeks; some middle and high school sessions are two weeks long. Advance registration is required in order to ensure that materials reach you before the start of camp.
