The third annual Innovations & Inspirations benefit event featured Sally Jewell, former U.S. Secretary of the Interior (2013–2017) and CEO of REI. Sally spoke about the critical role that lifelong learning in outdoor settings plays in environmental and science education. The event raised funds for the Hall’s new Outdoor Nature Lab, which will provide a rich natural environment for students, educators and families to interact directly with nature, and provide a permanent home for our research and development work in environmental learning and literacy.

The second Innovations & Inspirations event benefited the Hall and the new Inventors’ Learning Lab. The event featured Dr. Astro Teller, CEO of X, Alphabet’s subsidiary that focuses on research and development of “moonshot” initiatives. Dr. Teller spoke about the importance of education to technology and innovation, and described some of the incredible projects being pursued by X, such as self-driving vehicles.

The inaugural Innovations + Inspirations event raised support for the Hall and the new Hall Biotechnology Learning Lab. The event featured Dr. Jennifer Doudna, one of the creators of the CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing technology. Dr. Doudna told the story of how she and her colleagues developed this technology, and took audience questions about her hopes for her future work as well as the potential societal implications of genome editing.

The Hall’s Inspiring Young Minds gala raised support to prepare future inventors, engineers, and scientists. It also celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Nobel Prize award to Ernest O. Lawrence (for whom the Hall is named), as well as the fifth anniversary of the Hall’s Ingenuity programs.
Celebrating the premiere of the Tony Hawk | Rad Science exhibition, guests sipped cocktails, enjoyed live music, and came together to support science education. Take a look at the 2012 gala.
