Lab Mechanician

Responsibilities

The Lawrence Hall of Science Laboratory Mechanician Helper is responsible for fostering a positive team-oriented work environment with an emphasis on public service and the mission of the 7-day-a-week program of the Lawrence Hall of Science.

  • Provides skilled and semi- skilled mechanical and carpentry work on tasks with a variety of tools processes, and materials.
  • Responsible for daily turn on/turn off of interactive exhibits ensuring all elements are functional.
  • Maintain/repair educational materials for the museum floor and classrooms reporting to Shop Superintendent when assistance is needed.
  • Maintenance of storage and shop areas including tools and machinery, and proper use of safety equipment.
  • Unpacking, moving, installing of traveling exhibits and building materials.
  • Researching and ordering of supplies as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail, team-oriented.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a general shop or skilled trade with a variety of tools used in metal, plastics and woodworking, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Standard work week includes one weekend day, holiday work required. 
  • Graduation from High School or GED and/or equivalent experience/training. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an interactive Museum, Science Center or Educational Environment.
  • Prior customer service experience in an active family environment.
