Facilities Assistant

This position is for a Facilities Assistant at The Lawrence Hall of Science. Responsibilities include handling service requests from staff, providing facility maintenance and assistance for special projects, serving as acting Building Manager as assigned, and assisting the Production Studio.

Responsibilities

  • Handle service requests from staff, including minor repairs, furniture installation, and earthquake securing, referring to campus as needed.
  • Provide facility maintenance including fountain cleaning and treatment, maintenance and facility assistance for on-site cafe. 
  • Provide assistance for special projects including space renovation, touch-up painting and minor building projects. 
  • Submit and coordinate service requests for campus services including plumbing, lighting, lock repair, and heating. 
  • Serve as acting Building Manager as assigned. 
  • Maintain forklift, propane supply and operate the fork lift as needed.
  • Assist the Production Studio with exhibit installation and breakdown. Also, scheduled maintenance of floor exhibits as needed. 

Required Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of and experience in building maintenance and security. 
  • Basic experience/understanding of carpentry, painting, and/or other simple construction skills. 
  • Ability to learn quickly departmental processes and procedures and demonstrated ability to work independently after a brief training period.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a museum or science center environment.
  • Experience with campus facility services
  • Experience operating a fork lift.
