Planetarium Parties

Saturdays and Sundays
10:00–10:50 a.m. or
11:15 a.m.–12:05 p.m.

Flying High
Ages 4–7
Speed through an entire day in our planetarium “time machine.” Look for the Big Dipper. Take off with the launch of a spaceship, and learn how things move in space.

Journey to the Moon
Ages 4–7
View the changing shapes of the Moon as seen from Earth. Then pack your astronaut bags with everything you need for an imaginary lunar trip.

Constellations Tonight
Ages 8 –adult
Use a simple star map to find the constellations in the planetarium sky. Keep the map, and practice at home so you can impress your friends and family with your mastery of the night sky.

Biology Parties

Saturdays and Sundays
10:00–10:50 a.m. or
11:15 a.m.–12:05 p.m.

Dino Defenses
Ages 4–8
Spikes, shields, horns, claws, sharp teeth, and whipping tails—dinosaurs had a fascinating assortment of defenses to protect themselves from the hungry jaws of predators. Students watch a drama of a defenseless dinosaur being pursued by a Tyrannosaurus rex. Each student gets to add imaginative features to a precut, paper, defenseless dinosaur to protect it from T. rex. Children observe and touch animals from the Animal Discovery Room and see that they have some physical defenses similar to those of the dinosaurs.

Party Animals
Ages 4–12
Our gentle rabbits, rats, snakes, guinea pigs, lizards, and turtles are featured in a variety of exciting hands-on activities that you and your friends are sure to enjoy. Bring the whole gang for some fun or for a unique birthday celebration!

Chemistry Parties

Saturdays and Sundays
1:15–2:05 p.m. or
2:30–3:20 p.m.

Fizz, Pop, Wow!
Ages 4–7
Mix up some cool concoctions in our Chemistry Lab, and see which ones fizz. Where do the bubbles come from, and what’s inside them? Which ingredients make the bubbliest solutions? Figure out how to use these substances to inflate balloons and experience the fizzy, foamy action of a chemical reaction.

Slime!
Ages 6–10
Is it a solid or a liquid? Measure, mix, and observe as you dissolve solids in liquids to make slippery, bouncy, and see-through concoctions. Take home the results of these experiments, and watch for changes.

Liquid Nitrogen
Ages 11–adult
Discover the amazing things this strange cryogenic fluid can do.  Why do everyday materials behave so strangely when dipped into liquid nitrogen? Water freezes almost instantly, gases condense and boil again. What would happen to a rubber ball?  Do experiments, see demonstrations, and celebrate your birthday with something amazing!

Physics Parties

Saturdays and Sundays
1:15–2:05 p.m. or
2:30–3:20 p.m.

Electrical Connections
Ages 4–7
Find out what materials make the best paths for electricity, by using batteries and light bulbs to complete simple circuits. An electrifying, truly hair-raising experience awaits you and your guests.

Marble Machines
Ages 5–10
Create a winding path of tubes and funnels, tracks and bumpers, and send your marble for a ride. Experiment by making the track higher, the turns steeper, and even add a loop-the-loop. All ages will delight in making marble machines, from simple to complex, and will be inspired to invent and play.

Electric Circuitry
Ages 8–adult
An exhilarating, hair-raising experience is in store with this electricity party. Kids experiment together to wire a variety of circuits with a collection of batteries and bulbs, and work together solve the puzzle of how different circuits affect the flow of electric current. The party ends with exciting high voltage demonstrations.
