Research shows that the best predictors of a student's
achievement in school are not income or social status, but rather:
- a home environment that encourages
learning
- realistic but high expectations
by parents and caregivers for their children's achievement and future
careers
- involvement of parents/caregivers
in children's education at school and in the community.
When one or more of these three
conditions are in place, these are the results:
- Higher grades and test scores
- Better attendance and more
completed homework
- Fewer placements in special
education
- More positive attitudes and
behavior
- Higher graduation rates
- Greater enrollment in higher
education
