From the Horse Race Game to What Students Know

The "Horse Race Game" is a mathematics activity that focuses on key concepts in probability. One classroom version appears in the GEMS teacher's guide In All Probability, written for grades 3ã6. Your children have probably played this game (or something like it) in math class.

We invite you to play the brand-new Web version of this game! As you click on the dice, whatever number comes up is the number of the horse that then moves ahead one space. Think about which horses are most likely to win the race, based on which numbers you think have the greatest chance, or highest probability, of being rolled with two dice. After you've played the game, proceed to Two Assessment Approaches and Student Work.
