Tips from Teachers

Once the classrooms are transformed into habitats, I don't let the kids go thru the habitats quickly or loudly - I tell them you must turn into scientists, quietly, observing. Oscillating fans making the kelp forest sway in the "waves."

Here's a camoflague activity:

Lay down a piece of newspaper as a 'pond.' On top, place fish shapes cut out of colored paper and newspaper. Line the students up against the wall away from the pond. They are to run up and grab a fish and stand on the other wall, moving quickly the whole time. Then tape each color fish to the board in a bar graph. Did anyone notice the newspaper fish? Why not? What idea does this demonstrate? Camoflague!
