Details for Student Presenters
You are invited to submit a research paper to the Northern California Western Nevada Jr. Science and Humanities Symposium. The details for how to complete the submission are below:
In order to present, students first submit the following materials not later than Friday, January 8, 2010:
- A 200 word abstract

- A formal research paper of 5 to 20 pages
- A Student Data and Statement of Outside Assistance Form
- All necessary forms and instructions for the materials to be submitted are included in the Qualifying to be a Presenter link on this site.

The Student Data and Statement of Outside Assistance Form and Abstract may be:

All students who submit papers will then present their work in power point and oral format to a panel of judges at a screening session in one of four locations depending on where they live:
University of California at Berkeley
University of California at Davis
University of Nevada, Reno
California State University, Fresno
After the oral presentations, the judges at each screening site will recommend students who should be considered to be regional presenters. A team of professors, scientists, and teachers will review the technical papers and the screening recommendations at the University of California, Berkeley, to select the student finalists. Sixteen students will be selected to present papers at the Regional Symposium at The University of Nevada, Reno March 18-20, 2010.
STUDENTS WHO WISH TO PRESENT THEIR WORK SHOULD CAREFULLY FOLLOW THE SCHEDULE LISTED BELOW
DECEMBER 11, 2009 – If the project involves humans, vertebrate animals, recombinant DNA, or any pathogen, you are required to have the Animal/Human Project Proposal Form on file for review by the Scientific Review Committee. This form can be found in the Qualifying to be a Presenter link. If you have any problems accessing or downloading this form, be sure to contact our office as soon as possible. If you are working with humans, you will also need to keep a file of the Informed Consent form for each person who is in your test sample.
JANUARY 8, 2010 – All required forms and papers are due in the JSHS office as of this date(Revised abstracts and papers may be submitted later if necessary)
FEBRUARY 15-19, 2010 – Students present their research to the screening committees. When your papers are received, you will be informed about your screening date, time and location)
WEEK OF FEBRUARY 22, 2010 – All students who presented at the screening sites will of the decisions of the judges.
MARCH 18-20, 2010 –The Regional Symposium will be held at the University of Nevada, Reno
