The Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS) is an interactive science museum and curriculum development center located on the Berkeley campus of the University of California. The LHS Education Department serves students in preschool through grade twelve throughout California with programs in mathematics, science (life, physical, earth & space) and technology. Among the programs offered are workshops, multi-session courses, parent participation classes, after school classes, summer camps, planetarium programs and weekend workshops. Most programs are available both at school and at LHS and occur during the week and on weekends. The employee will be part of a team that develops and presents informal science center programming with the emphasis on positive visitor experience and enjoyment.

Responsibilities:

As a member of the Education Department, the Museum Educator 2 will present in-house and outreach programs using the LHS interactive, guided inquiry methods to students. The incumbent will be responsible for materials preparation and organization; delivery of programs; classroom set up and clean up; and communication with teachers, parents and the public. The incumbent will contribute to the development and revision of curriculum and undertake special projects as assigned by their supervisor. Additionally the Education Department has organizational duties that are performed by the teaching staff, such as scheduling, physical resource management of the Chemistry Lab or coordination of the Weekend Birthday Party Workshops. The incumbent in this position may undertake one of these management functions under the supervision of the department coordinators and director.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of educational techniques
• Working knowledge of the learning characteristics of museums audience
• Working subject are knowledge teaching skills
• Broad knowledge of basic science math
• Knowledge at a college level of some branch of math or science
• Knowledge of educational techniques and child development as related to education
• Working knowledge of emerging educational technologies
• Good Verbal, interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills
• Able to maintain classroom attention
• Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Continuing education in related field required

Salary Range:

3 Full Time Positions: $ 33,540 - $40,000 Annual
