Job Description:

The Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS), an innovative leader in the field of science and mathematics education, is the public science center on the Berkeley campus; it serves a quarter million visitors a year and provides programs for schools that serve a quarter million students at LHS and at their schools annually. The Center for Technology Innovation (CTI) has a dual function within LHS of developing innovative multimedia solutions that enhance math and science learning and supporting LHS staff and processes with their computing and network needs.

CTI is in the process of developing software to replace an antiquated database system used for class registration with web-based scheduling/database/ecommerce/invoicing systems. The project is a multi-year process and the contract position will assist in programming the initial project phase (registration scheduling and invoicing).

Responsibilities:

• Will respond directly to the lead programmer
• Will work in a team environment
• Design, develop, test, and maintain complex transactional and reporting systems in an application server and Web Services based environment using JEE technology
• Package and install software in an Open Source environment, including IDE, Web and database servers
• Write software documentation and user manuals. Use UML as part of the documentation process
• Program and setup complex databases in a mySQL server
• Programming in standard Web languages including XML, XSLT, HTML, JavaScript and CSS
• Mentor and assist junior programmers in the team
• Work on a fast paced environment and deliver assigned tasks on schedule

Requirements & Qualifications:

•Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent
• 10+ years of software development experience
• Demonstrated experience developing J2EE systems at an advanced level
• Demonstrated skills in documenting systems
• Demonstrated experience using industry coding standards
• Experience with continuous integration, unit testing and other agile techniques
• Proficient programming in SQL, XML, XSLT, HTML, CSS, Java and JavaScript

Salary Range:

Annual: $39,060.00 - $42,768.00
