Black Pine Circle School Partnership

Black Pine Circle School, a private school in Berkeley offers a Lower School facility Kindergarten through Fifth grade at 2027 Seventh Street and an Upper School facility at 2015 Sixth Street Sixth through Eighth grade.  Black Pine Circle School's educational emphasis and approach to teaching has been the Socratic or "discovery" approach to teaching. This has been an excellent match with Lawrence Hall of Science's philosophy of hands-on "discovery" approach to teaching. Black Pine Circle School is a Partner School with the Lawrence Hall of Science. This partnership involves Black Pine Circle School trial testing various curricula that Lawrence Hall is requesting us to trial test and provide feedback .  In collaboration with Lawrence Hall of Science and Columbia University, Teachers College, Black Pine Circle School has been trial testing a curriculum that links food, nutrition, gardens, and science, the LIFE Program ( Linking Food and the Environment). The fourth graders at our school have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the activities of the LIFE Program.  We have made grape juice, devised and conducted experiments using a variety of foods.  We even made cookies from puffed wheat !  Any comments or additions  may be sent to Willy Chen at : Chenbpc@yahoo.com
