The Centers for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence
(COSEE) - California
COSEE CA is dedicated to creating environments in which
collaborations among ocean scientists and K-12 educators
flourish. The Center marshals the considerable resources
of the following institutions:
- Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), University
of California, San Diego
- Marine Advanced Technology Education
(MATE) Center,
Monterey Peninsula College
- Marine Activities Resources and
Education (MARE) Program, Lawrence Hall of
Science, University of California, Berkeley
- California Sea Grant , La Jolla,
California
With the goal of enhancing the general public’s understanding
and appreciation of the ocean, these organizations have launched
a strategic campaign to integrate
ocean education and research. COSEE CA is focused on the following strategies:
- Facilitating relationships that connect scientists
with education outreach organizations
- Disseminating a
model course, Communicating
Ocean Sciences for undergraduate
and graduate students
- Creating a groundbreaking interactive Ocean
Science and Technical Careers web site
- Developing model K-12
Ocean Education sites for infusing ocean science into
pre-college classrooms
