Geek Challenge: Fix It Clinic Have you ever wondered what makes your DVD player tick? Do you have some broken down electronics? Bring them to our “Fix It Clinic” and find out. With expert guidance you will take apart your broken electronics and maybe get them working again. Either way you will have fun trying! Come to Lawrence Hall of Science, grab a drink and a friend, and get ready for some downright nerdy fun. All events include full access to exhibits, a cash bar, hors d’oeuvres, and of course the best view in the East Bay. Lawrence Hall of Science Cal Day 2010, Apr 17

From the Bay to the Milky Way, it’s going to be a full day. Check out our new exhibit RACE: Are We So Different? and enjoy hands-on science throughout the museum, including our outdoor science park Forces That Shape the Bay. Come check out our NanoDays event. NanoDays is a nationwide festival of educational programs about nanoscale science and engineering and its potential impact on the future. NanoDays celebrations will combine simple hands-on activities for young people with events exploring current research for adults. Don’t miss our giant balloon model of a carbon nanotube and science demonstrations with UC Berkeley researchers all day. The new planetarium will be an open exhibit from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. Visitors are welcome to drop in for presentations on constellations, deep-sky objects, and flights through the universe, as well as to get answers to their questions! Plus they will receive a 10% discount in the Discovery Corner Store on all items beginning with “B” for Berkeley. Get an astronaut’s-eye view of Earth’s surface as it changes minute to minute, by the hour, through the seasons, and over the years. You won’t need a spacecraft, just a ringside seat to Science On a Sphere® (SOS). Live SOS demonstrations will take place on the hour, every hour between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Build your own solutions to engineering challenges in the Ingenuity Lab! Open from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., the Ingenuity Lab will feature opportunities to design your own bridge and to meet with team members from the Bay Bridge project. Stargazing will also be offered on the main plaza from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m., weather permitting. Visit Our Neighbor: Space Science Laboratory (SSL) Free on Cal Day, the SSL opens its doors to the public. This once-a-year event includes free tours of the Mission Operations Center where satellites are monitored, as well as science talks, fun hands-on activities, and even a look through a solar telescope (weather permitting).
